After its first year of ownership, I booked my BMW R1200 GSA into Fersan BMW in Alicante for its annual service and some new tyres. This didn’t go entirely to plan as no tyres were available, I think they forgot to order them, however they did find my bike had missed 2 recalls so a second appointment was necessary.
A week later arriving at the dealership I had about 2hrs to wait so wandered into the showroom to have a nose about before heading to a café for breakfast. After looking at the R Nine T Urban GS 40th anniversary edition, rather nice I might add, I spotted a new GSA with plates on and remembered they had a demonstrator.

So today, thanks to Dave at D. W. Motorcycles, Scarborough, I finally did it and got out on the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor.
Climbing on board for the first time the bike felt really light and well balanced, but WHO put the foot rests there!!! Ouch, my leg!! yep, the non-retractable pegs are exactly where your calf muscle and shin bone are and don't you know it. This little glitch is quickly put to one side but not forgotten (you'll be given a painful reminder if you do forget).

Over the years I have ridden all sorts of different bikes that I have owned or borrowed from friends. Mainly sports bikes in the early years with occasional commuters and some naked's but never a tourer/adventure bike. That was until a few years ago at the NEC in Birmingham UK when I test rode a KTM 1190 and then again in 2018 when I tried the KTM 1290 Adventure S.

Looking at pictures, before the launch of the KTM 790 Duke I knew it would be a bike suited to the roads I ride in Spain. We don't live in the mountains but near enough to have some of them as a weekend playground. I first saw the new 790 Duke in the flesh at the Vive La Moto event in Madrid in April and then again at the Sobre2Ruedas event in Alicante, where the nice people from Moto Sport Carreres were taking signatures for their KTM Orange Days event in May.

It's been a long time since I last rode a large KTM, it was an 1190 Adventure R at the Motorcycle Live show at the NEC in Birmingham in 2014. This time it would be the 1290 Super Adventure S at the KTM Orange Days event held at Moto Sport Carreres in Crevillente.
