The preliminary figures have now been released by DGT and show that of the 240,000 vehicles monitored during the grace period in January 2011, more than 2000 drivers were caught by the new cameras.

The figures break down as follows:

  • In Madrid on the AP section 6 in Guadarrama tunnel 273 vehicles exceeded the 100kmph limit.
  • In Malaga on the A7 Torrox tunnel 1800 vehicles exceeded the same 100kmph limit.

All drivers caught in the grace period will receive a warning letter but no fine or penaly points, however as of the 1st Febuary 2011 the fines will start to be issued.  The maximum fine can be up to 600€ with a possible 6 penalty points, the fines and points are issued on a tiered system dependant on the severity of the infraction.
